The investigation study included a complete photographic record detailing the specific field conditions.

East of Hudson Watershed

DVL provided full mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems design for this new $12 million state-of-the-art building which provided new facilities for the protection and administration of the East of Hudson Watershed. The building was designed for security and control as well as sustainability. Working with the contractor, the architects created comprehensive construction documents to the requirements of the Army Corps of Engineers overseeing the project for the NYC DEP. The building and site design include special features, systems, material, and operating conditions to achieve the required LEED certification.

US Coast Guard

USCG Multi-Mission Station – Fire Island, Babylon, NY
DVL Consulting Engineers, Inc. performed a complete building life safety code analysis for this multi-mission building on Fire Island.  DVL was also responsible for an independent study of five separate HVAC systems (geothermal, solar heat gain system, central hot water boiler and chillers, PTAC, and variable refrigerant flow units) and subsequently designed the selected system. DVL also completed an upgrade of electrical systems including 4 kV switchgear replacement and step down transformer.

USCG Control Tower at Cape Cod Air Station, Cape Cod, Massachusetts

DVL Consulting Engineers, Inc. was the MEP/FP engineer for this air traffic control tower for the United States Coast Guard.  This project required the renovation of HVAC, electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems. Complete Code Analysis for life safety on all systems was also performed, as well as subsequent design of new systems.

USCG Academy – Yeaton Hall

As part of the US Coast Guard Academy’s campus, Yeaton Hall houses the Academy’s Learning Development Center, the Ship Control and Navigation Training System (SCANTS) and the Officer’s Club.  DVL Consulting Engineers, Inc. was responsible for the switchgear replacement within these buildings and within these specialized spaces and the replacement of associated electrical panels with necessary upgrades to make systems Code Compliant.

26 Broadway

The 26 Broadway project consists of three different schools designed to occupy several leased spaces within a 32 story high rise office building located in the area near Wall Street in New York City. The first school designed was the Urban Assembly School of Business for Young Women, which occupies three floors of the building. The space was modified with new mechanical systems to provide for general heating, ventilation and air conditioning requirements and accommodate new facilities such as science laboratories and locker rooms. New energy efficient lighting fixtures were provided for the school as well as a variety of electrical systems, including a local access network, intercommunication and television distribution systems, video surveillance and fire alarm systems. Plumbing systems were modified or extended and new systems were also designed to accommodate the new student population. In a similar fashion two other schools were created within this existing facility, including one which was renovated from a museum.

    Brooklyn Family Courts

Full gut rehabilitation of a six story high rise building formerly occupied by the New York State Court System. DVL Consulting Engineers, Inc. was the Design Engineer for HVAC, electrical, fire protection and plumbing systems for a $65,000,000 project. The HVAC system for this facility needed to be specialized to accommodate the very low slab to slab distances. The innovative HVAC design employed central rooftop HVAC units, and dual temperature, floor mounted, fan coil units within each space. Chilled water to fan coil units was obtained from a roofmounted, modular, air cooled chiller. This very special adaptation to the existing structure required that a new floor be added to house a new gymnasium with an interstitial space between the existing roof and the floor of the new gymnasium floor. The interstitial space accommodated mechanical equipment for the project. Intensive coordination and acoustical calculations were performed to ensure the HVAC system met the noise criteria in each space. All new incoming utilities and services were provided for this project.
