Kennedy Airport A
This project at Kennedy International Airport involved the conversion of a multi-tenant floor which had housed airport shops, concessions, security checkpoints, etc. into a dedicated space for a specialized purpose for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
DVL Consulting Engineers, Inc., as the MEP/FP consultant for this project was responsible for surveying existing systems and designing new systems to account for the new usage of the space. This included new power, lighting, HVAC systems and modifications to existing sprinkler and plumbing systems.
Laguardia Airport
Concourse “B” Security Bypass – The Security Bypass at LaGuardia Airport was initially integrated into the airport as a temporary provision to enhance passenger movement for those intending to travel from other terminals in the Airport. The goal was to allow them to be sheltered from inclement weather and provide direct access to other terminals in a high comfort and security controlled environment. The success of the Concourse “B” Security Bypass resulted in this temporary provision now being a permanent fixture which was seamlessly integrated into the airport space. DVL Consulting Engineers, Inc. was responsible for the systems upgrades necessary to complete this project which included design of electrical and fire protection systems.
Newark Airport
United Airlines Terminal “A”
HVAC Systems in terminal A were in need of an upgrade design, including electrical, plumbing and fire protection. Some upgrades included terminal lighting, main terminal roof, satellite and connector roofs, entranceway, public restrooms, domestic water heaters, drinking fountains, roof drain study, cleanouts of storm system and connecting links – lighting, including ADA and Life Safety Compliance studies. Newark Airport Concessions
Engineering study, including ADA and Life Safety Compliance studies, and subsequent Systems Upgrade Design, including electrical and fire protection to Concessions.
JFK Terminal 6 – Support Spaces
DVL Consulting Engineers, Inc. is providing MEP/FP design engineering for support spaces as part of the larger construction effort to revitalize Terminal 6.

The 26 Broadway project consists of three different schools designed to occupy several leased spaces within a 32 story high rise office building located in the area near Wall Street in New York City. The first school designed was the Urban Assembly School of Business for Young Women, which occupies three floors of the building. The space was modified with new mechanical systems to provide for general heating, ventilation and air conditioning requirements and accommodate new facilities such as science laboratories and locker rooms. New energy efficient lighting fixtures were provided for the school as well as a variety of electrical systems, including a local access network, intercommunication and television distribution systems, video surveillance and fire alarm systems. Plumbing systems were modified or extended and new systems were also designed to accommodate the new student population. In a similar fashion two other schools were created within this existing facility, including one which was renovated from a museum.
Full gut rehabilitation of a six story high rise building formerly occupied by the New York State Court System. DVL Consulting Engineers, Inc. was the Design Engineer for HVAC, electrical, fire protection and plumbing systems for a $65,000,000 project. The HVAC system for this facility needed to be specialized to accommodate the very low slab to slab distances. The innovative HVAC design employed central rooftop HVAC units, and dual temperature, floor mounted, fan coil units within each space. Chilled water to fan coil units was obtained from a roofmounted, modular, air cooled chiller. This very special adaptation to the existing structure required that a new floor be added to house a new gymnasium with an interstitial space between the existing roof and the floor of the new gymnasium floor. The interstitial space accommodated mechanical equipment for the project. Intensive coordination and acoustical calculations were performed to ensure the HVAC system met the noise criteria in each space. All new incoming utilities and services were provided for this project.
The PS-347X is a standalone five story primary school with a total area of the building is 50,000 sq. ft. Key features include being located adjacent to an elevated track of the NYC Subway System and structural system being all concrete poured with prefabricated exterior wall assemblies. The HVAC design consisted of air cooled modular chillers for cooling and gas fired condensing type boilers for heating; air systems consisted of roof top variable air volume units for service of classrooms and constant air volume units for service of assembly spaces (cafeteria and exercise areas).
DVL Consulting Engineers, Inc. provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection engineering services for the creation of this new charter school. This new five-story, 125,000 sq. ft. school was created as part of the Harlem Children’s Zone initiative to provide quality education for children in Harlem from Preschool to High School and to offer resources to the community. Promise Academy offers an extended school year and school day, additional academic assistance and extensive extracurricular activities. Harlem Children’s Zone is also open 24 hours a day to provide family assistance including Health Clinic to serve the community.
DVL Consulting Engineers, Inc. provided engineering services for the this brand new school building being incorporated into the Petrides School Campus in Staten Island, NY. DVL provided all mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection design engineering for this new 51,000 sq. ft. school designed on the lot of the previous school’s annex building.
The Mayor of NYC’s Universal Pre-K Initiative led to the creation of several new school spaces intended to provide preschool education for all children throughout New York City. DVL provided MEP/FP engineering to modify existing spaces to create these new schools, many of which required significant modifications to leased floors in high rise buildings. These projects required significant coordination and strategic efforts to maintain progress to meet strict schedule requirements. The following Pre-Ks were created as part of this initiative: PS 695K, PS 77R, PS 66R, Kew Gardens PreK, Regina Pacis PreK
Simultaneous design and construction of one of the largest school campuses in the history of the NYC School Construction Authority. The project consists of three (3) schools: Two (2) intermediate schools (PS/IS 208 and PS/IS 266) and one (1) High School for the Teaching Professions. The project consists of approximately 450,000 square feet of educational space. DVL is providing full HVAC, electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems design and construction services for a design builder. The project also includes full site lighting design coordinated to compliment the aesthetics of the neighborhood and the site.
